Today, we are celebrating the first steps towards fully re-opening one of New York City's cultural touchstones. Broadway!
It has been over a year since theaters across New York City were forced to cease operations due to the pandemic. And, while many other industries have been able to begin the re-opening process, Broadway and all theaters across the city have still largely remained closed without a clear indication as to when they would be allowed to re-open. That is until last week when theaters across New York State were opened at 33% capacity.
Many performers took advantage of the re-opening and headed back to the stage that very day, or made plans to do so in the near future at theaters across the state. Last Saturday, two legendary performers participated in the first show on a broadway stage in over a year.
On April 3rd, 2021, Savion Glover and Nathan Lane performed a pop up performance at Broadway's St. James Theater to an audience of 150 frontline workers and volunteers from The Actors Fund and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. This performance signifies the first steps towards re-energizing performing arts all over New York. We are so excited for the possibilities, and performances to come!
Below you will find a video clip of Savion Glover and Nathan Lane's performance.
